Somewhere deep in Appalachia, where the roots of Americana music blossom, there’s a rebel seed determined to grow beyond the melodic confines of the genre’s garden. That musical seed planted itself in the creative crevices of Blue Twisted Steel, a southern West Virginia-based, post-Americana band fronted by husband-and-wife team Josiah and Abigail Spangler and featuring multi-instrumentalist Travis Egnor.
'Turnstile of Romance,' the first full-length album by BTS, is the earthy product of that trailblazing artistry. In 10 songs, BTS takes you through a forest of sonic wonders. The band clearly retains its Americana foundation – the interwoven harmonies, acoustic instrumentation, and crystalline melodies – while also experimenting with wah-wah guitars, swirling soundscapes, piercing percussion, and a hypnotic Mellotron.
Scheduled for a 2026 release, 'Turnstile of Romance' was recorded in Lexington, Kentucky, during the last month of 2024. In the producer’s chair was Kenny Miles of indie rock band Wayne Graham.
